Hey all,

Been a bit quiet on here. Honeymooning through Greece and loving every minute of it, but also missing my beautiful Topanga listing. She’s still looking for her next steward. Who’s ready to enter into fall here, with cozy fires in the living room and watching the ocean fog roll in from the deck. I can only imagine how beautiful it must be to hunker down in this home during a rainstorm.

I feel so grateful for this job and for being able to work with awesome people in finding their home. I feel so grateful for my incredible team to allow me to leave the country a week before close and handle business while I’m gone. My clients have been home hunting for a while, in and out of the canyon, but always with their hearts set on being in this community. Today’s house tour is not actually a house, but

Today’s house tour is not actually a house, but rather the most beautiful castle I have ever moseyed through… and I’ve moseyed through my fair share of castles.

Castello Aragonese, located on a tiny island just off the coast of a less tiny island, Ischia, which is off the coast of Naples, is sure to make your heart swoon.

Bought by the Mattera family in 1911 when it was in ruins and completely abandoned, the castle has been lovingly restored over the last century. You can tell they really put their heart, soul and wallet into the restoration, because it is so tastefully done and well cared for. And what a massive undertaking.

The first settlement on this little island dates back to 474 BC! At one point, around the year 1700, this little castle island housed almost 2,000 families, as it was the safest place to protect themselves from invading pirates. Exciting!

The Matteras bought it for 25,000 Lire (the equivalent salary of 100 civil servants).. which means absolutely nothing to me. I’ve searched online to figure out what that actually equated to in dollars in those days, but haven’t yet figured that out. If you know, please do tell. A couple years later they bought the surrounding land on the island for another 18,000 Lire, and their lifelong project of restoring this treasure began.

It was such a treat to meander through the corridors and different rooms of the castle. Many of the bedrooms are used now as art galleries. The gardens, filled with olive groves, cactus, fruiting figs and citrus overlook the Mediterranean with views of Mt Vesuvius, Naples, Capri and Ischia. It’s a dream come true. I am in love.
